Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

No matter what the age of your child, The Presbyterian Church at New Providence is ready to welcome him/her in!

We as a church are committed to teaching our children about Jesus Christ so that they can develop a personal relationship with Christ and so that they can go out and share the love of Christ with others. Sunday School

sunday SchoolThere’s an old song, "Everybody Oughtta Go To Sunday School," and what better time to start than when you are young!

Every Sunday Morning at 9:30, our young children (two year olds-sixth grade) have the opportunity to learn about Jesus and grow in their faith by learning Bible Stories, discussing how the stories relate to us today, memorizing Scriptures and for our 4 year through 2nd graders worshiping God through music. We are currently using the LIFE Curriculum, and by the time children graduate from the 6th grade, they’ve been exposed to most of the key stories and concepts of both the Old and the New Testament.

In addition, our Sunday School children are involved in several missions related projects including: Compassion International, Operation Christmas Child and more!

Nursery-Care-Banner

Our Nursery is designed to minister love and care to the "youngest among us." We believe God has a special plan for these little ones (ages 2 and under), and part of that plan starts right here in our Nursery where children have their very first exposure to the church. Our Nursery is always well staffed with warm, caring adults. In addition parents can feel safe leaving their babies in our Nursery since we have a special sign-in/check-out policy and a beeper service (so that we can contact parents while they are in the service). Nursery Care is available ALL SUNDAY MORNING (9:15 AM-12:15 PM) so parents can attend Sunday Morning Services as well as the Adult Education Hour.

Activity-Hour-Banner

The Sunday Morning Activity Hour is held during the 11:00 a.m. service, children ages 2-4 years old have an opportunity to learn more of God’s word in a fun-filled, Christ-centered environment.

Activities during this class is both structured and unstructured-something of a cross between Nursery and Sunday School. Those familiar with GROUP’s Hands-On Bible Curriculum will be delighted to learn that each week we present the Bible using age-appropriate tools such as GROUP’s "Bible Big Book," and GROUP’s "Storyboard." There is also a good deal of unstructured play-a time for reading books, playing "kitchen," playing with toy trucks, etc.

Each class is staffed with two adults and teens.

Nursery School

Our Nursery School offers classes for children 2 1/2 years old, 3 years old, 4 years old, 5 years old and Kindergarten. We believe children will grow and thrive in an atmosphere of Christian love where the curriculum addresses the needs of the whole child. The Presbyterian Church Nursery School staff is sensitive to the individual needs of children. Elements of our curriculum address positive self-concepts, self-control, independence, interdependence, cognitive and perceptual skills, language art experiences, music and art activities, and large and small motor coordination. Our program includes concrete learning experiences combined with imaginative play under the supervision of caring teachers. We seek to teach children to hold the name of God in honor and reverence and to seek His rule in every dimension of life as we encourage a love for learning and a love for Jesus Christ. We have designed the Nursery School experience to be a complement to family life. As such, we encourage frequent and open communication between staff and parents. Our goal is to provide a quality learning experience that will enhance the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development of each child. The Presbyterian Church Nursery School is sponsored by the church and licensed by the State of New Jersey. The Nursery School is governed by a Board of Directors that maintains a relationship with the Session of the church. For more information about Nursery School, please call the Director, Jeanne Ross at (908)665-0951. Registration for 2010-11 classes will begin the first week in December for Church families.

Youth Club

Every Thursday evening (Sept.-March) our hallways are buzzing with activity as 120 children from the community come through our church doors to get more connected with God through small group Bible Studies, Worship Opportunities (puppets, musicals, service, choir), and Fellowship Activities (Recreation, Dinner, etc.). This is an excellent opportunity for children to grow in Christ and to form lasting friendships with other children. Don’t miss out on PCNP’s Midweek Miracle-every Thursday at 4 PM!

Kids’ Club

Each Thursday afternoon (4 PM-5:15 PM) there is a special program for Youth Club volunteers’ children in first and second grade. The kids enjoy an exciting time of Bible study, recreation, snacks, and music.

Kids’ Club leaders teach 1st & 2nd graders Bible stories that help them develop/deepen their faith in God (Abingdon Press BibleZone Curriculum) In addition, since we recognize the child’s need for play, we provide a time of recreation. The music segment of Kids’ Club is key because it allows children (musically inclined or not) to worship God through song and praise.

 Mission Projects

Operation Christmas Child

Each November children in Youth Club and Sunday School bring in gift-filled shoe boxes as part of a ministry to underprivileged children. This is an opportunity for our children (and their parents) to share the joy of Christmas by giving to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:34-40)—poor, needy children, many of whom have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ. Through Samaritan’s Purse, the shoe boxes are filled with Christian literature and children are invited to special assemblies/gatherings to hear about Jesus and receive their boxes.

* Youth Club and Sunday School children will see the “Operation Christmas Child” video and will receive brochures on how to get involved, beginning in late October.

Compassion

Millions of children live in extreme poverty—unable to attend school, constantly exposed to hunger and disease, and all too often neglected or abused.” While we can’t change the world, we as a Children’s Sunday School can make a difference—by reaching out to a few Compassion children through our money, our prayers and our letters.

At PCNP, each children’s Sunday School Class (2nd-6th Grades) has a Compassion child. A portion of the money collected during Sunday Morning offering is used to help these children with financial and educational needs. In addition, we encourage teachers to get involved with their class Compassion child by reading the letters these children write, and then by writing back to these children, and praying for them during class time.

What an awesome opportunity to reach out to those who are in need!

When your family is interested in sponsoring an individual Compassion child, please contact Nancy Vandermeer at office@pcnp.org.

For one week, our walls, doors, chalkboards, hallways, and classrooms take on a whole new look as our VBS teachers turn the church upside down with creative decorations, pictures, posters, and handmade, theme-related gadgets that point children to Jesus.

Over 300 children attended summer VBS during July 2009.
